วันนี้ “ลงทุนมัม” จะมาเล่าถึงหลักสูตรของโรงเรียนนานาชาติอีกหลักสูตร ที่เป็นที่นิยมกันมากในไทยนั่นก็คือ “หลักสูตรอังกฤษ” หรือ British Curriculum นั่นเองค่ะ
หลักสูตรอังกฤษ ถือเป็นระบบการศึกษาที่มีประวัติศาสตร์มายาวนานที่สุด โดยจะสอนอิงตามกระทรวงศึกษาธิการของอังกฤษ การจัดระดับชั้นนั้นจะใช้วันเกิดของเด็ก โดยใช้วันที่ 31 สิงหาคมเป็นวันกำหนด เพื่อรับนักเรียนเข้าเรียนในภาคเรียนแรกของปีการศึกษา ในเดือนกันยายนของแต่ละปีค่ะ ยกตัวอย่างเช่น ถ้าในระดับ Pre-School โรงเรียนรับนักเรียนตั้งแต่อายุ 3 ขวบ ในปีการศึกษา 2020 นี้ จะต้องเป็นเด็กที่เกิดตั้งแต่ 1 กันยายน 2016 ถึง 31 สิงหาคม 2017 ค่ะ
โดยหลักสูตรอังกฤษนี้แบ่งออกเป็นช่วงการเรียนรู้ออกเป็น 6 Key Stage ดังนี้
- KeyStage0 : ระดับชั้น Nursery – Reception สำหรับเด็กอายุตั้งแต่ 4-6 ปี
- KeyStage1 : ระดับชั้น Year 1- Year 2 สำหรับเด็กอายุตั้งแต่ 5-6 ปี
- KeyStage2 : ระดับชั้น Year 3- Year 6 สำหรับเด็กอายุตั้งแต่ 7-10 ปี
- KeyStage3 : ระดับชั้น Year 7- Year 9 สำหรับเด็กอายุตั้งแต่ 11-13 ปี
- KeyStage4 : ระดับชั้น Year 10- Year 11 (IGCSE) สำหรับเด็กอายุตั้งแต่ 14-15 ปี
- KeyStage5 : ระดับชั้น Year 12- Year 13 (Sixth Form) สำหรับเด็กอายุตั้งแต่ 16-17 ปี
จุดเด่นของหลักสูตรนี้ คือ เน้นการเรียนการสอนควบคู่ไปกับการให้เด็กได้ค้นหาด้วยตัวเอง หรือ Self-Study โดยจะมีวิชาที่เรียนประมาณ 8-9 วิชา (ซึ่งเยอะกว่าหลักสูตรอื่นๆ) ซึ่งจะแบ่งเป็นวิชาบังคับอย่างน้อย 3 วิชา ได้แก่
- ภาษาอังกฤษ
- คณิตศาสตร์
- วิทยาศาสตร์
นอกจากนั้นจะเป็นวิชาเลือก
หลักสูตรนี้ถือว่าการที่เด็กได้เรียนหลากหลายวิชา เป็นการเตรียมความพร้อมทางอาชีพให้เด็ก และเมื่อเด็กได้ลองเรียนหลายๆวิชาแล้ว จะทำให้รู้ว่าชอบและไม่ชอบวิชาอะไร ซึ่งจะเป็นการเตรียมความพร้อมไปสู่ Key Stage ระดับสูงๆต่อไปที่เด็กจะเลือกเรียนแบบเข้มข้นเฉพาะบางรายวิชาเท่านั้นค่ะ

ช่วง Key Stage 4 หรือ ใน Year 10 ถึง Year 11 สองปีนี้จะเรียนตามหลักสูตรมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น ที่เรียกว่า International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) และจะต้องสอบ IGCSE ซึ่งเป็นข้อสอบสากลที่ใช้สอบร่วมกันทั่วโลก เพื่อที่จะจบ Key Stage นี้ค่ะ

ถ้าเรียนถึง Year 11 (จบ Key Stage 4) จะถือว่าจบการเรียนในหลักสูตรมัธยมปลายของอังกฤษ แต่ถ้าจะศึกษาต่อในระดับมหาวิทยาลัยในต่างประเทศ จะต้องเรียนต่อใน Key Stage 5 หรือที่เรียกว่า Sixth Form หรือ A-Level โดยจะเหลือเรียนเพียง 3-4 วิชาเท่านั้น ช่วงนี้เด็กจะรู้ว่าตัวเองชอบหรือเก่งอะไรมากที่สุด และก็จะเลือกเรียนโฟกัสเฉพาะวิชาที่จะใช้ในการสมัครเรียนต่อได้ค่ะ เรียกได้ว่าใน Key Stage 5 นี้จะเน้นการเรียน เพื่อให้เด็กสอบเข้ามหาวิทยาลัยในสาขาที่ต้องการโดยเฉพาะเลยค่ะ เพราะฉะนั้น การเลือกเรียนวิชาเฉพาะสำหรับ A-Level นี้ ลูกๆของเราควรจะต้องเช็คดูมหาวิทยาลัยที่อยากเข้าก่อนนะคะ ว่ามี Requirement ว่าจะต้องเรียนวิชาเฉพาะอะไรบ้าง และจะต้องได้เกรดเท่าไหร่ ไม่อย่างนั้นตอนส่งใบสมัครเข้าเรียน อาจจะไม่ตรงกับที่มหาวิทยาลัยต้องการได้ค่ะ

โรงเรียนนานาชาติในไทยที่ใช้หลักสูตรอังกฤษนั้น เมื่อถึงระดับ Key Stage 5 มักจะมี Option ให้นักเรียนเลือกว่าจะเลือกเรียน A-Level หรือ จะไปเรียนระบบ IB Diploma ดี ซึ่งอันนี้ก็ขึ้นอยู่กับว่า แม่ๆ อยากให้ลูกไปเรียนต่อระดับมหาวิทยาลัยที่ไหนนะคะ แน่นอนว่า ถ้าอยากเรียนต่อที่ อังกฤษ คงต้องไปทาง A-Level ค่ะ แต่ถ้ายังไม่ชัวร์ IB Diploma อาจจะเป็น Option ที่เปิดกว้างกว่าเวลาเลือกมหาวิทยาลัยนะคะ ลองพิจารณาตรงส่วนนี้กันด้วยค่ะ
