บทความนี้ “ลงทุนมัม” เลย อยากจะชวนไปคุยกับ “มิสอลิสัน เบดฟอร์ด“ หัวหน้าแผนกอนุบาล ของ โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ มาลองดูกันว่า โรงเรียนอนุบาลที่ปลอดภัย มาตรฐานระดับโรงเรียนนานาชาติ นั้น จะเป็นอย่างไร?
โรงเรียนอนุบาลที่ปลอดภัย

ด้วยเหตุการณ์การกระทำรุนแรงต่อเด็กที่เกิดขึ้นในโรงเรียนบางแห่งที่กำลังเป็นข่าวอยู่ในปัจจุบันและสร้างความวิตกกังวลให้กับผู้ปกครองในสังคมไทยเป็นอย่างมาก พ่อแม่ต่างตั้งคำถามว่า เราจะมั่นใจได้อย่างไรว่า โรงเรียนที่เราส่งให้ลูกไปเรียนทุกวันนั้นปลอดภัยสำหรับลูกของเราจริงๆ
ในความรู้สึกของดิฉัน การให้คำจำกัดความโรงเรียนที่ปลอดภัยย่อมมีความแตกต่างกันไปตามแต่ละครอบครัวและบริบทสังคม ดิฉันเป็นแม่ที่มีลูกสองคน และครอบครัวของเราต้องย้ายไปทำงานในหลายประเทศทั้งในยุโรปและเอเชีย ทุกครั้งที่ลูกๆของดิฉันต้องเข้าเรียนในโรงเรียนใหม่ สิ่งแรกที่ดิฉันไม่เคยมองข้ามเมื่อต้องเลือกโรงเรียนให้ลูก นั่นคือ ความรู้สึกแรกตั้งแต่ดิฉันได้ก้าวเข้าสู่ประตูโรงเรียน
สำหรับดิฉัน โรงเรียนที่ปลอดภัยคือโรงเรียนที่ให้ความรู้สึกอบอุ่นทันทีที่ท่านและบุตรหลานก้าวเข้าสู่ประตูโรงเรียน ที่ซึ่งครูและบุคลากรทุกคนกล่าวต้อนรับท่านและบุตรหลานด้วยรอยยิ้มที่จริงใจ ที่ซึ่งท่านสามารถเข้าถึงการสื่อสารและการทำงานร่วมกันระหว่างบ้านกับโรงเรียนได้อย่างยอดเยี่ยม ที่ซึ่งท่านในฐานะ
ผู้ปกครองรู้สึกว่าท่านได้รับการต้อนรับ สามารถแสดงความคิดเห็นที่มี หรือพูดคุยเกี่ยวกับบุตรหลานของท่านกับครูใหญ่หรือผู้บริหารของโรงเรียนได้เสมอ และที่สำคัญคือโรงเรียนต้องเป็นพื้นที่การเล่น การเรียนรู้ ที่เพียบพร้อมไปด้วยเครื่องมือที่ช่วยส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้ของเด็กๆที่มีคุณภาพสูง พร้อมด้วยสภาพแวดล้อมที่สะอาดและได้รับการดูแลเป็นอย่างดีอย่างสม่ำเสมอ และแน่นอนว่าตัวบ่งชี้ที่สำคัญที่สุดของการเป็นโรงเรียนอนุบาลที่ปลอดภัย ก็คือเด็กๆที่มีความสุขในการเรียน!
และเมื่อดิฉันได้รับตำแหน่งหัวหน้าแผนกอนุบาล ที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ ดิฉันและบุคลากรทุกคนมีความมุ่งมั่นในการสร้างโรงเรียนอนุบาลที่ปลอดภัยให้เกิดขึ้น เราภาคภูมิใจในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่มีความปลอดภัยสูงและเป็นมิตร จากผลการตรวจสอบคุณภาพโรงเรียนของคณะกรรมการการตรวจสอบจากภายนอก ซึ่งเป็นคณะกรรมการผู้ตรวจสอบอันทรงคุณวุฒิจากประเทศอังกฤษ หรือ Education Trust Inspection (EDT) เมื่อเดือนพฤศจิกายนที่ผ่านมา คณะกรรมการผู้ตรวจสอบ ได้รายงานว่า โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ เป็นโรงเรียนที่ “มีความอบอุ่นและเต็มเปี่ยมไปด้วยความสัมพันธ์แบบเกื้อกูลกันระหว่างครูและเด็กนักเรียน ซึ่งทำให้เกิดบรรยากาศการเรียนการสอนที่สร้างสรรค์และส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้และทำให้เด็กๆเติบโตอย่างงดงาม”
ในการบริหารจัดการโรงเรียนนั้น เราต้องพิจารณาปัจจัยหลายอย่างเพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าเราได้สร้างโรงเรียนที่ปลอดภัยอย่างแท้จริง ในด้านอาคารและสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกในโรงเรียน เราให้ความสำคัญกับการสร้างพื้นที่การเรียนรู้ทั้งในร่มและกลางแจ้งที่โปร่ง โล่ง มีแสงและอากาศถ่ายเทได้ดี เพื่อให้เด็กๆเพลิดเพลินและมีส่วนร่วมในการเรียนรู้แบบไร้ขีดจำกัด
ในช่วง 2-3 ปีที่ผ่านมา โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ ได้ลงทุนกว่า 30 ล้านบาท ในการปรับปรุงอาคารสถานที่ ทั้งที่วิทยาเขต รามคำแหง แผนกอนุบาล และที่วิทยาเขต
วินด์เซอร์ปาร์ค แผนกประถมและมัธยมศึกษา เราทำการรื้อกำแพงในหลายๆจุดออก เพื่อที่จะสร้างพื้นที่การเรียนรู้แบบเปิดโล่งและเชื่อมถึงกัน ที่มีหน้าต่างบานใหญ่
เราได้ว่าจ้างทีมรักษาความปลอดภัยมืออาชีพและจัดระบบรักษาความปลอดภัยที่แน่นหนา รวมทั้งใช้ CCTV ในพื้นที่ส่วนกลางทุกจุด เพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าโรงเรียนของเรานั้นปลอดภัยจากโลกภายนอก เมื่อผู้ปกครองส่งบุตรหลานไปโรงเรียน พวกเขาต้องการที่จะรู้สึกมั่นใจว่าบุตรหลานของพวกเขาปลอดภัย และเมื่อพวกเขารู้ว่าทั้งตัวโรงเรียนเองและบุคลากรของโรงเรียนจะสร้างสภาพแวดล้อมที่ปลอดภัยเพื่อให้บุตรหลานของพวกเขาได้เติบโตอย่างงดงาม ผู้ปกครองก็จะเบาใจและสามารถจัดการงานหรือธุรกิจของพวกเขาในแต่ละวันได้

สิ่งที่สำคัญอีกอย่างหนึ่งที่เราถือปฏิบัติกันที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ นั่นคือ การที่บุคลากรของเราทุกตำแหน่ง ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ครู ครูผู้ช่วย ครูผู้ดูแลนักเรียนในหอพัก พนักงานในส่วนศูนย์อำนวยการของโรงเรียน แม่บ้าน พี่เลี้ยงเด็ก พนักงานขับรถ พนักงานรักษาความปลอดภัย ฯลฯ ต้องได้รับการฝึกอบรมเกี่ยวกับสวัสดิภาพ ความปลอดภัย และการปฏิบัติตนต่อเด็ก (Safeguarding) เป็นประจำทุกปี เพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าพวกเขารับทราบถึงนโยบายพื้นฐานทั่วไป และรับทราบเมื่อมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงในรายละเอียดของนโยบาย และต้องปฏิบัติตามข้อปฏิบัติในเรื่องสวัสดิภาพและความปลอดภัยของเด็กอย่างเคร่งครัด บุคลากรทุกคนต้องเข้าใจว่าตนเองมีบทบาทที่สำคัญในการดูแลให้เด็กๆมีความปลอดภัย นอกจากนั้น ครูผู้สอนชาวต่างชาติยังต้องฝึกอบรมเพิ่มเติมในบางหลักสูตรที่มีความเกี่ยวข้องจากประเทศอังกฤษ
ที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ ประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารและครูใหญ่ ดร แดน มัวร์ ให้ความสำคัญเป็นพิเศษกับการสรรหาบุคลากรทั้งในและต่างประเทศ การสรรหาบุคลากรในทุกภาคส่วนของโรงเรียนเป็น
กระบวนการที่เข้มงวด เพื่อสร้างโรงเรียนที่ “ปลอดภัย” โดยจะมีการดำเนินการตามขั้นตอนการตรวจสอบทั้งจากแหล่งข้อมูลส่วนบุคคลที่อ้างอิงได้ การตรวจประวัติอาชญากรรมโดยสำนักงานตำรวจแห่งชาติและการตรวจสอบประวัติอาชญากรรมจากองค์กรของประเทศบ้านเกิดของบุคคลนั้นๆ นอกจากนั้น บุคลากรที่มีสัญชาติอังกฤษทั้งหมดต้องได้รับการรับรองจาก ICPC หรือ International Child Protection Certificate รวมถึงการตรวจสอบคุณวุฒิต่างๆของบุคลากรที่ทางโรงเรียนได้ว่าจ้าง
นอกเหนือจากเรื่องของการออกแบบอาคารสถานที่และสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกให้ปลอดภัยต่อการใช้งานของเด็กๆ การสรรหา ตรวจสอบ และฝึกอบรมบุคลากร การประเมินความเสี่ยงในทุกๆกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ของเด็กๆแล้ว โรงเรียนที่ปลอดภัยยังต้องสร้างขึ้นจากความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีระหว่างครู เด็ก และผู้ปกครอง โรงเรียนที่ให้ความเคารพและการสนับสนุนซึ่งกันและกัน และมีสภาพแวดล้อมที่เป็นบวกเพื่อส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้ของเด็ก
ที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ เรามั่นใจว่าสภาพแวดล้อมการเรียนรู้ของเรา จะทำให้บุตรหลานของท่านรู้สึกได้รับการต้อนรับ พวกเขาจะรู้สึกสบายใจ ปลอดภัย ในการสำรวจ ค้นพบ และตัดสินใจที่จะเรียนรู้

ที่แผนกอนุบาล เด็กๆยังอยู่ในวัยที่เรียนรู้การเล่นและการอยู่ร่วมกันกับผู้อื่น ดิฉันและบุคลากรที่แผนกอนุบาล จะใช้วิธีการสื่อสารเชิงบวกและการยกย่องชมเชยทั้งในรูปแบบของคำพูด สติกเกอร์ เพื่อให้เด็กๆได้เข้าใจถึงพฤติกรรมที่พึงประสงค์ ที่เราคาดหวังให้เด็กๆได้ปฏิบัติในรั้วโรงเรียน ซึ่งเป็นสังคมขนาดย่อมที่พวกเขาใช้ชีวิตอยู่ ก่อนที่พวกเขาจะได้เติบโตไปในสังคมภายนอกต่อไป
โรงเรียนมีความสำคัญในฐานะที่เป็นแหล่งการเรียนรู้แรกของเด็กๆ โรงเรียนจะต้องเป็นสถานที่ที่น่าจดจำ เต็มไปด้วยความทรงจำที่ดี และมีความสร้างสรรค์ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง โรงเรียนอนุบาลนั้นมีความสำคัญมาก เราเชื่อว่า ขวบปีแรกๆของชีวิต คือ ช่วงอายุระหว่างสองถึงหกปี เป็นปีที่สำคัญในการวางรากฐานการศึกษาของเด็ก เพราะ ด้วยธรรมชาติของเด็กเล็ก พวกเขามีความอยากรู้อยากเห็นและกระตือรือล้น พวกเขากำลังเรียนรู้ที่จะเรียนรู้ โรงเรียนต้องทำให้ความอยากรู้อยากเห็น ความกระตือรือล้น และการเรียนรู้ของเด็กนั้น ได้เกิดขึ้นในสภาพแวดล้อมที่เกื้อกูล กระตุ้นต่อประสาทสัมผัส มีความสุข และปลอดภัย

พัฒนาการทางด้านวิชาการ ทางด้านกายภาพ ทางด้านสังคม และทางด้านอารมณ์ ล้วนเชื่อมโยงกัน
ดังนั้น ในทุกๆวันที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบรอมส์โกรฟ หน้าที่ของเราคือ การสร้าง”เด็กที่มีความสุขในการเรียนรู้” เราสร้างความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีเยี่ยม ระบบการจัดการภายในโรงเรียน และความคาดหวังที่มีต่อเด็กๆ เพื่อให้พวกเขาเรียนรู้ที่จะทำให้ดีที่สุดและได้เรียนรู้จากการตัดสินใจและการกระทำของพวกเขา
ทุกๆอย่างที่เราทำที่โรงเรียนล้วนแต่มีความหมายต่อการเรียนรู้ของเด็กในฐานะพลเมืองของชุมชนและของโลก การเข้าแถวในตอนเช้าหรือการประชุมนักเรียน (Assembly) กระตุ้นให้เกิดความรู้สึกถึงความเป็นชุมชนและความเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกัน บุคลิกลักษณะของผู้เรียนบรอมส์โกรฟ หรือ Learner Profile ช่วยให้พวกเขาสามารถพัฒนาได้อย่างต่อเนื่องนอกเหนือจากการพัฒนาตามหลักสูตร ระบบบ้านของเรา (House System) ปลูกฝังความภาคภูมิใจ มิตรภาพ การทำงานเป็นทีม และการดูแลด้านจิตใจและการอภิบาล (Pastoral Care) ที่เข้มแข็ง ตลอดจนการกำหนดพฤติกรรมที่เป็นที่คาดหวังหรือพึงกระทำนั้น ก็เพื่อที่จะให้นักเรียนได้รู้จักตัดสินใจเลือกทำในสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง แสดงความเคารพซึ่งกันและกัน รวมทั้งได้ไตร่ตรองถึงการตัดสินใจของพวกเขาที่ได้ทำลงไป
จากทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างที่เราปฏิบัติที่บรอมส์โกรฟ ดิฉันในฐานะหนึ่งในผู้บริหารของโรงเรียนจึงรู้สึกยินดีเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่คณะกรรมการตรวจสอบจากภายนอก ได้กล่าวสรุปไว้ในรายงานการตรวจสอบโรงเรียนเมื่อเดือนพฤศจิกายนที่ผ่านมาว่า “บรอมส์โกรฟให้ความสำคัญกับมาตรการป้องกันที่เข้มงวดและครอบคลุมในเรื่องของสวัสดิภาพ สุขภาพ และความปลอดภัยของนักเรียน”
ในฐานะผู้ปกครอง ดิฉันเชื่อว่าพวกเราทุกคนต่างต้องปกป้องและดูแลลูกๆของเราอย่างสุดความสามารถ และในฐานะของหัวหน้าแผนกอนุบาล ดิฉันเชื่อว่า ครูใหญ่และผู้บริหารโรงเรียนทุกคนควรตั้งคำถามกับตนเองในทุกๆการตัดสินใจว่า “หากทำเรื่องนี้ด้วยวิธีการแบบนี้แล้ว มันดีพอสำหรับลูกของเราหรือไม่ เพราะเด็กๆทุกคนในโรงเรียนต้องได้รับการดูแลเสมือนลูกของเรา”
